Blocking & Filtering

The Internet is a great source for getting information, communication with others, and a place to have FUN!

Our goal should not be blocking and filtering what kids can do on the Internet, but rather to teach them how to be responsible citizens, and understand the consequences when we are not responsible.

1. 8e6 Technologies - besides blocking unwanted sites, the client includes a foul word filter, password protection, and automatic updates.
2. Anti-Defamation League Hate Filter - software product designed as a gatekeeper. It blocks individuals and groups that the ADL feels advocate hatred, bigotry, or violence towards groups on the basis of their distinctive characteristics.
3. Child Safety-Net - free newsletter, message board, links to other resources, and info on the reference manual.
4. Cyber Patrol - includes an explanation of the CyberYES and CyberNOT block list system, aimed at limiting access to sites inappropriate for kids ages 6-16.
5. Cyber Snoop - Internet monitoring and control software that lets you create a log of URLs, file transfers, news groups, chat, and email. Also allows blocking sites.
6. Cybersitter - gives parents the ability to limit their children's access to objectionable material on the Internet. Parents can choose to put up blocks to certain material or can be alerted when it is accessed.
7. ENUFF Parental Control - allows parents or teachers to monitor a child's activity on the computer, control access to the Internet, and determine times that children are allowed to use the computer.
8. FamilyConnect - Internet access software that locks pornograhpic and detrimental sites. Updated daily.
9. Internet Content Rating Association (ICRA) - empowers the public, especially parents, to make informed decisions about electronic media by means of the open and objective labeling of content.
10. Internet Filter - this program monitors, filters, analyzes, and logs Internet access by users.
11. iWayPatrol - filters and blocks sites dealing with pornography, chat, dating or escort services, illegal drugs, and more. It can also be used to block 'timewasting' sites such as games for schools.
12. MoM - this software screens objectionable web sites, logs URLs, views thumbnail screen shots, and filters unacceptable words.
13. N2H2 - Internet filtering for home or work with four levels of protection.
14. SOHOware Central - offers a Broadband Internet Gateway that lets you both monitor your children's Web activity and block sites you don't want them to access.
15. Surf Control - blocking and filtering system for kids. Includes criteria for acceptable and unacceptable sites, as well as a company history.
16. We-Blocker - software that allows parents to monitor their children's Internet access and content and filter out sites they feel are inappropriate.
